2023 Group Service-Learning

Trips to Ghana

Start your summer off with meaning. The 2023 trips will be serving at a children's home and primary school in a rural village, Akokwaa, Ghana, West Africa.

The group's service will extend beyond their trip through their contribution to the sustainable initiative on site. We value the ability to provide long-term solutions to poverty through service.

In order to provide a holistic experience, paticipants will embark on excursions to visit cultural and historical sites in Ghana.

The service-learning experience offers individuals a chance for personal and leadership growth. Participants have the opportunity for skill development and self-reflection as they engage in teamwork and new cultural experiences.

  • 2023 Summer trips are in collaboration with Buck-i-SERV with The Ohio State University. Please visit their website to apply and inquire about participation. You must be an Ohio State student.

Location: Akokwaa, Ghana 


This experience will be a 2 week trip in Ghana, where participants will serve at The Engyankwa wo enyiadad (Hope for orphans) Children’s Home. The home aims of empowering orphaned and vulnerable youth from impoverished communities. Currently, the home has about sixty children. The children’s home also has a school, which works with students in nursery through JHS 1. There are between 150-200 students in the school. 


Estimated Cost: $3,000 (includes flight)


The majority of our fees go directly to the programs in which our volunteers serve in order to increase our impact in sustainability. The trip fees are broken down into two sections. Each participant's cost will vary based on their current immunizations, their plane ticket, and their selection for insurance. 


Foundation Expenses: $1300

  • Accommodations, 3 meals/day, purified water, in and out-of-country staff support, airport pick up and  drop off, and the associated costs for multiple excursions.


Outside Expenses: 

  • Plane ticket, passport, visa, immunizations, Covid-19 pre-arrival and pre-departure tests (pending current requirements by Ghanaian Embassy), and traveler's insurance

  • *Yellow Fever is required and we require anti-malarial pills and Covid-19 vaccination proof. 


2023 Empowerment Project:


All empowerment funds will be directed towards the furnishing of the recently completed second 3 classroom block for the school at the children's home, in addition to other ongoing TAF empowerment projects. 

Selection Process:


All individuals interested in attending our trips must fill out a brief application. After we have reviewed your application, we will contact you about space availability. Our goal is 10-15 people for each trip.
