Vocational Training School Sponsorship

The Need: As a part of our female empowerment initiatives, we sponsored Tina's vocational training at EKGS Culinary Institute in Accra, Ghana from October 2016-December 2017.

Tina grew up in a rural village in Asitey, Ghana. Tina’s mother ran an orphanage for many years, until 2013 when she passed away of cancer. When her mother passed away, her family lost their financial resources to medical and funeral expenses, leaving Tina without the funds to continue her education. She found sponsorship for her high school fees, graduating from SHS in May 2015. Yet, even with a high school education it is nearly impossible to find a job in Ghana’s current economy. Therefore, she had a goal of learning a trade to provide her opportunities in the food markets across the country.

Sponsorship Details: Our foundation covered Tina's class fees, hostel fees, a food stipend, and her required school supplies. Tina started classes in October 2016 in cookery and baking, and completed her training in December 2017 with a certificate specializing in culinary training with a focus on baking and catering.

The Benefits: Tina dreams of starting her own restaurant or catering business in the future. To save money to open May 2017, Tina has been serving as TAF's head chef, ensuring all of our volunteers are provided safe, high quality, and local dishes during their time in Ghana.
